A Gathering of Good Things

Meet Plaza

At Plaza, we curate colorful jewelry, art, home goods, and events. Based in Boulder, Colorado on Pearl Street’s west end, our shop is inspired by the landscape, people, and culture of the Americas.

As an antidote to a consumerist culture that disconnects and commodifies, we aim to help you celebrate diversity and beauty. In gathering goodness, we hope you feel closer to your community and truest self.

Designer and Curator of Plaza

Meet Sarah

Sarah Martinez designs fine jewelry for adventurers to carry as they journey through life. Born and raised in the West, Sarah takes inspiration from the landscape, peoples, and culture of The Americas. Each design is characterized by bright unique gemstones and durable modern setting methods - made with love in NYC and colorful Boulder, Colorado.

Sarah's Full Bio

In addition to designing her namesake fine jewelry line, Sarah is a lifelong adventurer.

Her journey began in Loveland, Colorado in the late 80’s as the descendant of European and Mexican immigrants. As a child, she was frequently found painting with bold colors, assembling flower jewelry, and setting up a “shop” in her backyard for neighborhood kids to peruse and patronize. Fast forward to her first job at 16 - an assistant to the town’s local goldsmith and gemologist.

Sarah holds degrees in Studio Art, Art History (University of Colorado) and Jewelry Design (Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC). Throughout her studies, Sarah felt inspired by art and design found on extensive travels through Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Before launching her jewelry design business in 2020, Sarah trained extensively as a CAD designer and production assistant for celebrated jewelry designers in the Diamond District on NYC’s 47th Street.

Sarah is a mother, a proud descendant of Latin American immigrants, and a collector. Her Boulder, Colorado shop Plaza is filled with her jewelry designs, colorful paintings, and objects curated from travels around the world.

Her heart swells with joy, knowing that the dream of opening her Boulder shop remains so very similar to those elementary-aged days of setting up backyard spaces, intended for her friends and neighbors to feel inspired and joyful.

Plaza

With a colorful selection of jewelry, art, and home goods, Plaza aims to tell the story of the Americas and and the mix of beautiful (and often underrepresented) cultures that comprise it.

The Setting

Boulder

Boulder, Colorado sits at the base of the rugged Rocky Mountains. Ask anyone who’s been here: they’ll never forget the moment they crested the final hill on Highway 36 and caught a glimpse of the beautiful valley below. This area was home to the Ute and Arapahoe tribes first. In more modern years, it’s been known as a haven for artists, students, and outdoor enthusiasts.

But a lot has changed in recent years - Boulder has become a hub for tech giants, and because of how prohibitively expensive it’s become, many artists, mom and pop shops, and families that once thrived here, have since vacated.

At its core, Plaza is a place that’s focused on gathering goodness for the enjoyment of the community. We want to help Boulder's creative spirit thrive.

Why Plaza?

Plaza is inspired by the great public gathering spaces of Europe, Asia, and of course, Latin America. Plazas, squares, piazzas, and mercados are places of commerce, but they’re also places of community and inspiration.
